Note: This review is done from memory. I originally read this a short bit ago.

Page Pig Thoughts: We giggled and laughed our way through this book as we learned about different sports. We appreciated learning the history, rules, and medal counts of Olympic sports. The mentions of variations for Paralympic sports were also very intriguing. But we super appreciated the humor. Basketball was the first sport highlighted, and the “What is it?” had us laughing for awhile. If that made you curious, basketball is “a team sport in which really, really tall people hurl a big orange ball through a hoop hung high in the air.”

Sometimes I questioned how much the author really knew about a sport, but it really didn’t matter. The information is rather high level, so if you really wanted to know more, looking in another book would be useful.

This one definitely got Page Pup thumbs up. We are super disappointed not to see a winter games companion for this book.

Use caution if your child is prone to trying things suggested in books. Each sport has basic training tips, some would have your child running and yelling around the house. If the kid really stuck with the training regimen, that would get old rather quickly.

Positive Items:

  1. Along with the sport details, this has a nice overview and history of the Olympics and Paralympics.
  2. With the variety of sports, you can learn about something new.
  3. Each sport has chances for becoming a champion, so maybe that will help inspire interest in a sport.
  4. Each sport also indicates the best ever countries, which makes for an interesting look at different cultural interests.

Items of Interest:

  1. Each sport has basic training tips. If your kid starts asking for random fruits, be aware that the fruit may be for throwing or hitting with a stick.
