Summary from Book: Gibbon the Gargoyle is new to an island full of mythical creatures and is learning at an academy there that trains students to go on missions to protect creatures in trouble. He and his new friends, a dragon, a fairy, a griffin, and a yeti with a man bun, are all excited when they’re given their first assignment. Declan the leprechaun has lost his gold, and even though all the other leprechauns think he’s just forgetful, Declan is convinced that it’s been stolen!
Will the misfits be able to complete their mission and help him find it?
Note: This review is done from memory. I originally read this awhile ago.
Page Pig Thoughts: I never got overly attached to this story, but enjoyed following the magical creature friends as they used their unique skills to solve the mystery. The friends helped each other through personal struggles. The dragon helped the griffin with her flying since she had not mastered that skill yet. Fiona the fairy had been unimpressed with the dirty leprechauns. But once she understood that a storm messed up Declan’s home, she found empathy and was better able to help him find his gold. In the end, the friends help a leprechaun find his gold and reunite a kelpie that was lost in a storm to find his family. Not my favorite story, but that doesn’t mean that plenty of children wouldn’t be thrilled to read it.
