Summary from Book: Who is Geronimo Stilton?

That’s me! I run a newspaper, but my true passion is writing adventure stories. Here in New Mouse City, the capital of Mouse Iland, my books are all bestsellers! My stories are funny, fa-mouse-ly funny. They are whisker-licking-good tales, and That’s a Promise!

Treasures of the Maya – I was having a relaxing Sunday when I got a strange email. My sister, Thea, had gone on a secret mission, and she needed help! While trying to protect a great treasure, she went missing. Great Gouda, I had to find her! Could I solve the mystery and find Thea before it was too late?

Note: This review is done from memory. I originally read this awhile ago.

Page Pig Thoughts: We are big fans of the Thea Sisters, so I had assumed that all Geronimo Stilton books would be on the same level as those stories. That wasn’t exactly the case though, I had read through several before I started finding some with the same intelligence level and flow as the Thea Sisters. Treasures of the Maya was the first Geronimo Stilton story that I read that I felt was a good counterpart to the Thea Sisters. After this one, I read The Peculiar Pumpkin Thief, which was also a good read. So Geronimo Stilton for me seems a bit more hit or miss, but there are definitely good ones. And even the ones that I didn’t find as good were not bad.

Stilton stories are a fun way to learn about new geographic areas and cultures through non-fiction facts, but following the mystery is engaging enough that the nonfiction facts don’t get in the way or feel forced.

Family Unit: From the few that I have read – Geronimo interacts with his sister Thea, cousin Trap, and nephew Benjamin (9yo). His friends, Hercule and Bruce, appear frequently.

Items of Interest:

  1. Information about Mexico, Mayan culture, mexican cuisine, and morse code are included. Even a few simple recipes are given.
